Flower & Music Festival
The Flower & Music Festival was held in St Nicholas’ Cathedral in Newcastle upon Tyne and the theme of the flower festival was “Heroes, Past and Present”
On entering the Cathedral the sight and smell of over 60 magnificent flower displays in such breathtaking surroundings sent the senses reeling and, no doubt, will have become an everlasting memory.
The floral journey through the Cathedral took us from Aden to Ypres, the Battle of Britain to the Battle of Trafalgar and from Port Stanley to Helmand and was a Salute to the young men, women and animals who serve their nation when it calls upon them.
The Royal Navy, the Army and the Royal Air Force were all remembered with special mention for Admiral Lord Collingwood for whom 2010 is the 200th Anniversary of his death and who worshipped and was married in the Cathedral.
The musical element of the Festival was provided by service bands from the Army and the Royal Air Force apart from the last day, Sunday 18th July, when the mood became more reflective.
